The Saguenay-Lac Saint-Jean Legal Aid Community Center is seeking a legal secretary specializing in sexual and domestic violence for a fixed-term contract (until June 27, 2025) at the Chicoutimi Legal Aid Office. The position is to start as soon as possible.
Tasks of the Legal Secretary
- Assist a contractual lawyer engaged in matters of sexual and domestic violence related to the specialized court pilot project for sexual and domestic violence.
- Transcribe, produce, or prepare documents or procedures from notes provided by the lawyer, manage their processing, update the client file, verify payable accounts, and communicate relevant information to the client.
- Take oaths from clients, witnesses, and other individuals.
- Maintain the agenda.
- Record and transcribe data regarding legal aid applications.
- Open, close, and classify files.
- Archive and destroy files.
- Receive, screen, and forward telephone communications.
- Handle incoming and outgoing mail.
- Prepare invoices and expense claims related to cost recovery and the contribution component.
- Maintain the trust account.
- Manage accounts held with financial institutions and carry out necessary operations.
- Handle petty cash.
- Utilize provided IT tools proficiently.
- Maintain an updated database of legal procedures.
- Keep law and case law books updated.
- File payment notices and close files.
- Substitute for the receptionist when needed.
- Perform any other related tasks.
